AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE
As you have heard, Puerto Rico has been devestated by hurricane Maria. My beloved mother now deceased was born on this beautiful island. The remainder of her family still live on the island. The home in these pictures belongs to my uncle Ruby's family. He and my aunt Ivitte lived in this home before the storm. What becomes of this home is unknown at this time. Do they patch it up or move toward rebuilding it either now or later? Do they relocate to the States where they have family? Do they move to another part of the Island? These are the uncertainties they face. Their daughter Elizabeth who lives in San Francisco said in an email that she is sure they would "want to fix their home regardless if they stay or move since it is the only property they own." What is certain is that they face desperate times in a place where food and clean water are not easily accessible. Besides Elizabeth, my Uncle Ruby has a college aged daughter, Melisa, shown in the main photo, and Michele who is married with three small children. Michele will also need assistance since the place where they were living is no longer habitable.
The funds raised here will go toward my Uncle Ruby and his family in Puerto Rico as they confront an uncertain future. These funds will be used toward housing, shelter, food, clothing, water, any potential travel expenses and/or building materials. Many families are fleeing the Island since the conditions there are so bad. We will only wire the funds once our family in Puerto Rico confirms that it is safe to do so. Any amount you choose to give will be greatly appreciated. If you give you have the choice to designate it public or private. If we reach our goal, 20% of the funds will be given to their local Catholic parish, Nuestra Senora de Providencia in Villalba, Puerto Rico, to be disctrubuted to the local families in need. We will post updates on this site and on facebook as new information becomes available.
Remember, we are helping Puerto Ricans who are Americans citizens. My family is greatly humbled to have this page started for them and we are grateful for your help. Please continue to pray for the beautiful people of Puerto Rico. Together we can help them to rebuild family-by-family toward the restoration of their lives on this beautiful island.
