VALLEY VIEW ACCESSIBLE PLAYGROUND

Donation protected

Project Overview

This new, universally accessible playground will be built at Valley View Elementary School.  It will serve 350 students as well as students from other schools in the area and to the community at large. Communities including Port Washington and Oconomowoc have accessible playgrounds, but they are too far away to serve our community.  The goal of our project is to meet this need.

Project Details
We will provide universal accessibility to enable children of all abilities to play side-by-side with their peers, creating an integrated environment where compassion and acceptance can flourish and learning is fostered through interactive play.

We currently have two boys at our school who have physical disabilities and who desperately want to play with their peers. We want to erase the invisible line on the playground that separates them from their friends. We want to provide a place where children of all abilities can play side by side and learn from each other and build relationships.

Our playground will benefit children with a variety of special needs, including as those with Autism or who are blind or have other sensory challenges, as they will be able to use the equipment, including special sensory and musical features.

You should support this program because it will make the world a better place for disabled children and their able-bodied peers, both at Valley View and in the community at-large. Not only is this important for the self-esteem of those who have a disability, but it is important for those who don’t.  Learning to live, work and play with others is an important lesson for everyone.

Fundraising Goal
The project will cost approximately $125,000 in materials and labor and will be built entirely with donated funds.  We plan to fundraise through the end of the ’15 school year and build the playground in the summer of 2015, if not sooner.

We have raised more than $40,000 due the generosity of our many donors, including the likes of Harley-Davidson, Roundy’s, Quad/Graphics, Community Memorial Hospital Foundation and many others.  We are well on our way, but we need your help to get us over the finish line!
