Valeriya's Medical Fund

Dear Friends, Your help is needed and would be very much appreciated.

This fund is to help my dear friend from college, Valeriya Kurkina-Smith, cover some of the medical costs. Val is a genuinely kind, life-loving and hardworking person from Portland, Maine where she lives with her husband and a 9-year-old son.

Last summer Val was diagnosed with a dangerous eye condition called retina tear/detachment. If left untreated, it leads to blindness. Since then Val went through 3 surgeries. Unfortunately, the condition is worsening and Val is in need of yet another 4th surgery as soon as possible. Val was referred to Mass General Hospital in Boston where she will be going through an expensive treatment.

Because of the serious illness and missed time at work, Val lost her job in November 2014 (and her health insurance) so the 2 most recent surgeries have to be covered out of the pocket.

Please help as much as you can. No amount is too small.  Let’s wish Val fast and smooth recovery, pray for her family and hope that the upcoming surgery will be a success.
