This past February 3, 2017 our family was given an unexpected change. Our little Valentina who then was 4 years old was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L.). This news devastated us in all aspects. Cancer is a difficult diagnoses to hear for anyone, yet to hear it about your little girl is devastating. As parents, knowing that your child will be challenged with the biggest battle of her life is very sad; even though she has only lived a few years she has shown us what a strong and brave warrior she is. She will moving past this and overcome cancer! As parents we are always trying to be strong and put on our best face for our sick child but the most difficult is knowing that we have 3 other little girls who are always waiting for us to return.

It’s been 5 months since her first chemotherapy treatment, which everything seemed to go well as she remained strong. We were very hopeful with the treatment and felt that it was going to work. When we had a meeting with the doctor’s on her oncology team they informed us that unfortunately the treatment was not working and was not able to kill all of the cancerous cells. After this meeting, they started a second treatment which she endured well. Months afterwards, we were once again informed that it did not work either. At this time, Valentina is almost at the end of her third treatment which is called Blinatumomab which is a continuous 28-days of chemotherapy. Night and day our little one carries around a backpack with her chemotherapy infusion inside pumping chemo inside of her Broviac catheter which is placed inside her chest.

We ask for your prayers that this third treatment will work so they can begin the bone transplant process that her big sister Isabella is looking forward to donating. From the bottom of our hearts we ask for your prayers for our little warrior Valentina Ibarra Cazas!
