Valemount Cares Seniors Supportive Living
Why your support is important: Valemount seniors are forced to leave the community they have lived and worked in, to access services not available here. The Valemount Cares project is initially a supportive living facility that would offer affordable and accessible housing, meals, housekeeping, laundry and activities to allow seniors to live independently longer in the community. It would allow seniors to have visits from friends and family in the area without needing them to travel long distances.
How will we use this money: We want to fundraise from individuals and businesses and seek other grants to construct a "Community Hub Space" for additional programs and services to offer a vibrant, warm and safe place for all seniors to access services and experience more social connection. This added space will be built on to the new housing units in the future facility just south of the high school on Ash Street. The fundraising will also reduce the money we need to borrow, thus making it more affordable to offer services to seniors. We plan to develop housing with funds from BC Housing, CMHC and Columbia Bain Trust.
When: BC Housing has approved the Valemount Cares residences in June 2021. When we meet their development and design guidelines, we should have the go-ahead for construction, likely spring 2022.
And then: The first phase of Valemount Cares would be a stepping stone to bring long term care to Valemount.
