Help Kian Beat Brain Cancer #kianstrong

Kian Finnegan is almost five months old.  He loves to laugh, sing, snuggle his mama, watch (real) football with his dad, and is fascinated by every single move his big sister, June, makes.

Just before Christmas, Kian came down with a bug that he couldn't quite shake.  After several trips to the doctor and the emergency room, the symptoms began to tell a different story.  Kian was admitted to the hospital when doctors became concerned that there was fluid in his brain.  After further testing, Adrienne and Neil faced every parent's worst fear: their beautiful baby boy has a brain tumor pressing against his brain stem.

On January 8, Kian underwent a harrowing fifteen-hour surgery, during which doctors were able to remove approximately 40% of the tumor.  He is now working on recuperating and resting up for the next steps.  The pathology indicates that the tumor is an ependymoma, which is cancerous.  The good news is that there is a path toward treatment, which includes chemotherapy, another surgery in approximately two months to remove the remainder of the tumor, and radiation once he is old enough to tolerate it.

Despite all of the scary news that Adrienne and Neil have had to deal with over a very short time, there is cause for gratitude and hope.  First and foremost, Kian is the beneficiary of at least four miracles that helped him be in the right place at the right time, survive a tremendously difficult surgery, and maintain his fighting spirit.  Additionally, Adrienne and Neil have had so many friends, family members, doctors, nurses, specialists, and perfect strangers reach out to offer support, assistance, and all other manners of help.  As they face living in the hospital for the next few months, we are hoping to take some of the financial burden off their plates.  Parking, dining out, time off from work, bills - all of it adds up quickly.  If you would like to donate to help with these expenses, please feel free to do so here.

In the meantime, the Finnegans wholly believe that Kian is still fighting due to the prayers, well wishes, positive vibes, and healing thoughts from an entire community of people rooting for him.  Please keep that up.  He needs all the strength and spirit he can get.
