Help for Addie - Abuse Victim

Donation protected
Addison Echols is a beautiful, happy 9 month old baby girl. Addison, better known as Addie, has a fraternal twin sister, Cathryn.  The girls live primarily with their mom, Nickie, but were also seeing their biological father every other weekend. During the 5/1/15-5/3/15 visit with their father, Addie came home with a huge bruise that covered the left side of her face and top left side of her head.  Their dad had texted Nickie Saturday 5/2/15 notifying her that Addie allegedly fell in a pack and play and had a little bruise and scuff on her cheek, but when Nickie picked the girls up on Sunday she was shocked to find that the bruising on Addie went from the forehead down to her chin.  Addie was taken to the ER and underwent extensive testing/procedures – they had to x-ray her entire body since she cannot speak for herself and had to have blood drawn as well.  Based on the extent of the injury, and the look of the bruising, the doctors immediately called the Police and Child Protective Services as that is standard protocol.  All of the medical staff, including the officer and CPS intake worker stated that the bruising was not consistent with a fall in a pack and play.  Upon a follow up visit the following day, the doctor noticed the facial bruising on Addie’s face and ordered a head CT scan – Addie had a subdural hematoma (bleeding) on the left side of her brain.  A few days later, Addie was sedated for a follow-up MRI and the bleeding absorbed on it’s own, but the final report from the doctor indicates that bruising this severe is caused by abuse.  The injuries don’t appear to have caused any permanent damage, and Addie has now been cleared 100%.

The following 2 weeks after the trauma were very scary for Addie and her mother as Addie was very jumpy, scared to sleep, and would wake up screaming quite frequently.  Addie never did these things prior to this incident and we cannot help but feel it is related to the abuse she has experienced.

Thankfully, Addie’s twin sister, Catie, wasn’t harmed in any way and is still a happy go-lucky baby.  Addie is getting better every day, and is almost back to her sweet, and happy self.

There is a detective and CPS caseworker assigned to the case – but their father still maintains that Addie fell in the pack and play and will not admit to any wrong doing.  The detective is still investigating the situation, trying to sort out what happened and find out the truth.  No one, especially Nickie, wants to assume the worst, but until there is a definite resolution, the girls need to be protected.  The girls are covered under Nickie’s health insurance but the hospital bills are sure to soon be pouring in.  Until an arrest or more findings are found, there is no official document keeping the girls in Nickie’s custody unless court documents get filed in Dallas county.  In order to fully protect the well being of the children, Nickie is in the process of hiring an attorney but cannot file anything until the retainer fee is paid.   Nickie is a single mother and is doing everything she can to protect her girls from this ever happening again, but between the hospital bills and lawyer fees she really could use our help!   Please help her so that she can ensure that her sweet girls stay protected and this is never allowed to happen again!
