My Mary
Let me tell you about My Mary. I have worked with Mary for about 3 years. She is an important part of the VA appraisal team. I have always referred to her as “My Mary” because I felt protective of her. She was so meek and mild. Then I got to know this feisty, less than 5ft tall lady and I realized, maybe she should be protecting me. Mary doesn’t take mess from anyone. But she didn’t start out as “My Mary”. She is a Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Niece, Sister-in-Law and a friend. She talks endlessly about her son Tim, daughter Joanne and grandson Jaylen. She is such a proud Mom and Grandma. She gave me a card that her Mother made, and I cherish that card. She loves her Son and I saw terror in her eyes when she got a call that he had a medical emergency. Mary loves her whole family, she talks about her sister Nan and broth-in-law Jerry a lot, they have been her support.
But, in addition to telling you a little about Mary, I am asking for your help.
Mary has been diagnosed with cancer. She had 5 tumors on her brain, cancer in her lungs, liver, hip, back and lymph system. She had surgery on Thursday to remove one of the tumors on her brain that was causing her pain, she still has 4. Her family will not know the plan of action as far as treatment until they can figure out the source, which may be as soon as 8/15/17.
The hospital Mary is in, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, is about 50 miles from her home. Her sister, brother-in-law and family are traveling back and forth when they are not staying at the hospital. Her daughter and son have come here from different parts of Virginia to be with their Mom. All of this, along with medical procedures cost money. As we all know, the first catastrophe could ruin most of us. And this is a catastrophe that no one expected.
She has been in and out of work recently due to having eye surgery. Therefore, she hasn’t had a full paycheck in a few months. When you don’t get a paycheck at work, your health insurance does not get paid, which right now, she cannot afford to lose her health insurance.
I am asking for donations to alleviate financial stress for Mary. We need her to focus on her fight, not her bills. Any little bit helps, so please don’t think $5.00 or $10.00 will not be appreciated. She needs all the help and support that she can get. She needs help as soon as possible. If you can please share this and ask others to share. The more we get it out there, the more support she will have.
