Foster Care Achievers Scholarship

Life growing up in Chicago, Illinois was challenging. It was rooted in poverty, family upheaval, and frequent episodes of violence. I learned to appreciate smaller things in life and how to deal with hardships...both great and small. Foster Care Officers ripped me away from my place of security and I was placed into the Foster Care System. I am determined to provide assistance to students that come from a family in poverty, families that are damaged by drugs and alcohol, and students who are left confused and powerless by a society that treats them inhumanely. It seems to me that this is what I was meant to take heed of. I want to take part in this opportunity so that I can be equipped to empower my community. I enjoy learning about the world and look forward to using that knowledge to make things better for the less fortunate; particularly, for students that are in the Foster Care System. I am certain that many students in cities like Chicago feel that they have no choices. They live on the edge because they have few opportunities for employment and no encouragement to excel. I will be an example to students that I meet. I will show them that they, too, can achieve their goals...if they work hard and persevere. I am hoping that if I can get this opportunity, I will change many lives. "Everyone needs a helping hand" I am starting the Foster Care Acheievers Scholarship (FCA) Fund for graduating High School students entering their first year of college in the Fall of 2016. My goal is to raise $15,000 to award 2 students who are in the Foster Care System or was previously. The award will be presented in the Spring of 2016. I would appreciate any contributions to the Foster Care Achievers (FCA) Scholarship Fund. Thank you.
