Colleen Porter - Help with expenses

Donation protected
On May 2, 2015 Colleen found her husband Fred collapsed on the floor at home. He was rushed to the hospital and life flighted to Dixie Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Over the next several days the medical team at Dixie discovered that Fred had suffered three strokes; one causing paralysis, one affecting speech and another small one on the right cerebellum, affecting balance. There was also swelling on his brain and several clots in Fred's body, his heart continued to release small clots into his body, causing further issues.

Fred was intubated and surgery was performed to remove several of the clots. Though there were many close calls, Fred miraculously survived the surgery and made small but meaningful steps towards progress, transferring from ICU to a regular room on May 8, 2015.

Fred had a feeding tube placed on May 10, with plans to be moved to Highland Manor in Mesquite for rehabilitation, and made the move on May 18th.

While the road to recovery was known to be long, and a full recovery not likely, all those close to Fred celebrated the news that he would be released from the hospital and into a care facility close to home. Colleen of course celebrated the most.

Tragically, Fred Porter passed away on Friday, May 29th, after being rushed to the hospital with complications. Colleen was by his side until his last breath, and gave him her blessing to leave this earth.

Anyone who knew Fred even a little could tell you just how much he loved Colleen. Her wellbeing was first and foremost to him. Fred unabashedly embraced and exhibited this love for his wife, cooking meals, sending flowers and leaving Colleen love notes at work. They enjoyed cruises with one another, Nascar and other parties with their friends. They led a very full and happy life.

Colleen is working on adjusting to life with Fred looking over her instead of walking beside her. She is also facing steep medical expenses, end of life expenses, as well as living expenses from unexpectedly dropping to a single income.

While the love and care in which Fred showered Colleen with on a daily basis has left large shoes to fill for her friends and family, we'd like to start by doing all that is possible to lessen this financial burden and the worries that accompany it so that Colleen can focus primarily on her own healing.

An account has also been set up at Wells Fargo. Visit any Wells Fargo branch and request that your donation be deposited into the Fred Porter Memorial Fund.
