Colton Ray - Adrenal Cancer Battle

My name is Meghan Fowler. My mom, Dorothy Littke (Ray), and I setup this fundraiser for my brother, Colton.

Colton was diagnosed with a rare, incurable type of adrenal cancer in January of 2018 called a Pheochromocytoma. Because this cancer is so rare there are not as many treatment options or doctors that specialize in it. To get the best care, Colton and Ashley sought out a doctor in New York.

The first step of Colton’s treatment was a major surgery (New York) to remove his 13cm main tumor on his adrenal gland. Unfortunately, because this cancer can cause so much damage to organs around it, he also had to have his left kidney and adrenal gland removed along with his spleen and part of his pancreas. During the surgery a radiation patch was also implanted to kill off the rest of the tumor that couldn’t be removed due to its closeness to a major artery.

Since this surgery, not only has his cancer spread to many other locations, but Colton also has had countless MRIs, CT, and PET scans. He has had 12 chemo treatments (2 days each), 4 treatment injections, and various other medications.

 

Initially, the chemo treatment was effective enough to decrease and stabilize his metastatic lymph nodes and lung mets and allow for a somewhat normal, however very uncomfortable lifestyle.

We knew this treatment would not be sustainable forever, but we did not anticipate that it would stop working completely. Recently Colton’s oncologist at OU decided that he would stop treatment because it was not effective.

 

After more research, Colton and Ashley have decided to seek treatment elsewhere and will be headed to MD Anderson in Houston on Sept. 13.

 

Why we need your help…

 

We want to relieve the Ray Family of as many burdens as possible right now. We’re hoping to raise some money to help with the costs of his upcoming travels and treatments. Some of these costs include copays, prescriptions, treatments and scans that are not covered by insurance as well as travel and lodging expenses.

 

There was a previous fundraiser setup for Colton approx. 2 years ago, but all the funds have been depleted by medical bills, traveling to New York, and other expenses related to his care. As well as his inability to work full-time while receiving treatment.

 

A little about Colton…

 

Colton is only 30 years old. He is a loving and devoted husband as well as a father to a beautiful 3-year-old daughter.

Colton serves his community as a Police Officer. He was also previously a volunteer Firefighter/EMT.
