Jennifer Ritter Medical Expenses

Donation protected
On December 1st 2014 our friend Jennifer Ritter was involved in a head on collision.  An uninsured texting driver was at fault. She was lucky to survive but suffers to this day with a painful head injury.  She has excruciating head pain that does not go away. Jennifer is a working mother and wife who has fought to advocate for her health.   Despite her relentless pain she continues to take care of her family and tries to be as functional as possible.

The rare injury she sustained was a cranial cerebral spinal fluid leak.  There are only a few specialists in the nation that treat cranial leaks. Jennifer has had to travel to Denver CO for most of her surgeries.   She has had 5 brain surgeries, 4 diagnostic procedures and countless scans. The trips to Denver have been stressful for the family. October of 2016 Jennifer went out for two weeks for diagnostic procedures and the surgery.   She had to return in November for a six week follow up appointment. In February 2017 Kyle and Jennifer returned to Denver for seven days for additional diagnostic testing which was very painful. June of 2017 Jennifer went to Denver by herself to meet with various surgeons for the next round of surgeries.  She had two surgeries that required her to say in Denver for 8 weeks. Kyle traveled back and forth to balance his time between their four kids, work and supporting her through surgery. Jennifer was able to find some additional help locally at Penn State Health in Hershey PA. The neurosurgeon in Hershey did a diagnostic procedure in February of 2018 and her most recent surgery was in August.

As if this was not stressful enough, the Ritter’s have had a number of other health concerns that have affected their family.   Kyle was diagnosed with kidney cancer and surgery to remove the tumor in 2016, he had to have scans every three months for the first few years after surgery and thankfully they have been clear of cancer.  That same year their daughter was diagnosed with chronic Lyme’s disease and she continues to need costly treatments. In 2017 Kyle was in a freak accident and broke a bone in his neck.

Both Kyle and Jennifer continued to work throughout the past four years.  Financially this has taken its toll and they have accumulated significant medical debt.   They still face a few more surgeries for Jennifer’s head injury and a few more trips to Denver CO.  Jennifer has documented her story in great detail on the blog site at www.CaringBridge.com.
