Battle against Cancer

The average person dreams of getting a good job, a good home, a reliable car and having a family to share life with. Cancer is one of the least anticipated experiences in life and often the most life changing. I came across Bernice while working together at a skilled nursing facility (Alaris). She is a wife, mother, sister, friend, and one of the most inspirational person I have met. That is because despite Bernice's incredible fight with ovarian cancer, she continues to support her family and comes to work 5 days a week.
At the present time Bernice is undergoing chemotherapy. Her cancer has become much more aggressive since being diagnosed earlier this year, causing a significant lost of weight, low energy, and chronic fatigue. Despite these side effects, Bernice continues to go to work even on her worst days because she cannot afford to lose her health insurance or income. Furthermore, she has already used the maximum amount of disability coverage.
It is with the brightest hope and biggest prayer that I reach out to the community, friends and family of Bernice. Not only is she battling cancer, her husband recently had a massive stroke and is in the ICU. His condition is poor, and due to Bernice’s low immune system, she is unable to visit her husband who is currently unresponsive. Bernice is a mom of two incredible teenagers, Emilee and Jason; her biggest fear is leaving her children without parents.
If you have been fortunate enough to know Bernice, you have watched her rise above many battles. She is fiercely independent and originally declined to have this gofundme account set up. But this battle needs the strength of all those who surround her.
Bernice does not let her diagnosis hold her back. She continues to fight everyday. However she is at the stage of her battle where she needs a team to fight along side her. The money raised will be used to cover transportation expenses, allow her to take time off from work as needed, and it will supplement the current loss of income from her husband being sick.
