UV Theater/Ragdale 2018

Tax deductible
Hello friends --

I'm delighted to announce that The UV Theater Project is embarking on its 4th annual site-specific/Ragdale Foundation performance!

This year we will perform Anton Chekhov's THREE SISTERS as the culmination of an artist residency at Ragdale, with performances June 21, 22, and 23.

This production will be the fourth of the four Chekhov masterworks performed by the UV Theater Project at Ragdale.

And we need YOUR help to make it happen!

Generous contributions have made our work possible in the past, and we humbly ask if you can help make our work possible this summer.

We're conducting a 40-day fundraising campaign to complete the financing for our THREE SISTERS residency/performance.  We thank you in advance for your support!  Our goal is to raise $4000 in 40 days.

$4000 by June 16!

WHO WE ARE and HOW WE GOT HERE:

The UV Theater Project is a theater company of accomplished theater artists that creates unconventionally staged performances of canonical plays.  We've started with our number one guy, Anton Chekhov.

Three years ago, a group of us got together to do a reading of Anton Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA over vodka and cheese. We had so much fun we decided to have a Vanya party – inviting friends over as we read UNCLE VANYA (again over Vodka and Cheese) – weaving the performance in and around them.  It was exciting and fun and free -- the spontaneous creation of a site-specific Chekhov performance.

Eventually, the Ragdale Foundation found out about our work, and awarded us their "thematic" residency for groups of artists working in collaboration. In August of 2015, we rehearsed and then performed a site-specific performance of VANYA in and around the Ragdale grounds.  The residency was so successful we were invited back the following two years, and performed THE SEAGULL and THE CHERRY ORCHARD in the same site-specific way.

NOW:

We've been invited back by Ragdale again! This time -- THREE SISTERS.  As ever, we'll search to find an immediate, dynamic, energized, funny, human, and highly intimate realization of Chekhov's aching, hilarious, paradoxical, and deeply universal writing.  Performances June 21 at 6:30 PM, June 22 at 6:30 PM and June 23 at 1:30 PM and 6:30 PM.

 WHAT'S NEW WITH US:

- The UV Theater Project is growing! We've incorporated – we are now officially a theater company, and Not-for-Profit 501(c)(3) organization! We are raising money for THREE SISTERS, but also to build a sustainable Chicagoland summer theater.

- We've hired a producer: recent Michigan grad, David Francis Newman, who will also perform in THREE SISTERS.

- Part of the UV mission is to nurture promising young performers who are currently in or have just finished actor training.  Our cast will include superb young alum and student actors from both the University of Michigan and Northwestern University, who will act side by side with renowned and seasoned theater artists.

WHAT WE NEED:

We are looking to raise $4000 of the project budget via crowd sourcing (about 25% of this year's budget).  All of the money raised goes directly to expenses. Any money we raise above $4000 will also go directly to production expenses or be saved for future productions.

Pre-production officially begins June 4, the first week of rehearsal begins June 11, and our residency week June 18, with performances June 21, 22, and 23.

There are many costs associated with the project.  Actors and the creative team must get paid.  Ragdale, while it highly subsidizes its artists, does charge a residency fee per resident.  And there are, of course, the long list of expenses – scripts, programs, props, etc – associated with any production.

We are EXTREMELY GRATEFUL for your support.  In an age of commercialism, the spirit of Chekhov thanks you too!

You can donate any dollar amount – from $1 to $1,000, or more.

Please give what you can -- help breathe life into this year's residency and into a new and growing theater company whose main goal is to create vital experiences for our audiences and ourselves.

And by all means, please post our link to social media or forward to someone you think might be interested:
