Last year, Raymond Lindenberg, was diagnosed with stage 4 Follicular lymphoma. This cancer causes sick blood cells which can travel to many parts of the body including the bone marrow and lymph nodes. Since his diagnosis he has gone through two rounds of chemotherapy.
Doctors have informed him that his recent treatments are a temporary solution. The medical staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering believe that the only way to successfully battle his aggressive type of cancer is through stem cell replacement. So what does this mean for Ray....
Starting May 2, 2019 Ray will be admitted into Memorial Sloan Kettering cancer center where he will receive stem cell replacement therapy using two harvested umbilical cords. He will be in the hospital in NYC for five weeks. He will then be transferred across town, where he will have to be under constant monitoring for an additional 10-16 weeks. During this time, someone will have to be with him, in Manhattan, 24-7. The family will do our best to be with him to help him through this difficult process. But Ray needs help, therefore, we are going to have to hire staff to be with him all day, everyday. This, nor the travel in and out of the city is covered through insurance.
So I write this as a plea for help for my brother. He is under a terrible financial burden. His medical costs at this point are already out of control and it's only going to get worse. We are helping out the best we can as a family but I want to take as much stress away from my brother as possible. Success rate is high using this type of therapy, but he needs to be as relaxed as humanly possible while in an uncomfortable and unfamiliar environment.
