My very good friend Shelley Nelson is a 48-year old woman who is a wife and mother of two beautiful girls. Her family is the center of her world. Shelley has been a part of my family for nearly 25 years and I could not imagine my life without her in it.
About 25 years ago, Shelley was diagnosed with diabetes and her health had been stable and good for many years. In 2017, Shelley was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and less than one month later, she was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney failure and suddenly she was faced with the possibility that she may have to try to find a way to say ‘good-bye’ to her family.
Shelley has struggled to stay healthy and with the love and support of all of her friends and family, she has maintained a strong spirit. Even though she has been struggling, her heart is still just a big and loving as it was when I first met her all those years ago.
Currently, Shelley is receiving PD dialysis and is on a wait list for a kidney transplant at Abbott Northwestern Hospital but if she does not get this transplant, it is not a matter of “if” she will die but “when”.
Shelley would give her last drop of blood to anyone of her loved ones if they needed it but, even though she does not want to admit it, she needs help. She needs all of our help.
Currently, Shelley has $2000 in medical bills and that number is growing every single month. I am asking all of you to open your heart to the notion that Shelley is someone’s mother, someone’s wife, someone’s daughter, and someone’ s dear friend….a sister.
I am asking you today to help her by spreading the word out there to anyone who can help Shelley and to donate any funds, if you can. Any funds raised would help to cover current and continuing medical costs. When the transplant comes, Shelley will be out of work for 2 months so she will need all of the help she can get so she and her family can survive. Thank you.
