Utility Workers United Association

We are the former officers of a local labor union affiliated with a National Union and our local union represents hardworking men and women in the utility industry. The members of that local labor union feel that the local union officers have represented them very well but that the National Union has not. Because the National Union disagreed with the way we seek to protect our members and because our members no longer want to be affiliated with that National Union, the National Union held a meeting that we were not invited to and it has also taken over the administration of our local’s affairs. The National Union now seeks to operate a local union consisting of over 600 men and women who were repeatedly disrespected and inadequately served by that very same National Union. The National Union has also filed suit in court to try to convince a judge to uphold its takeover.

What the National Union has done leaves us with no funds to fight this outrageous takeover.  We need funds quickly to get on our feet so we can represent ourselves against the National Union’s unlawful conduct. The overhead we anticipate needing to cover will be everything from travel expenses to court costs to attorney fees. Unfortunately, it costs a lot of money to resist this kind of behavior because of the strength and wealth of the very National Union that was supposed to protect us.

Your generous support will help us to fight this assault on over 600 members and their families-as many as 2,400 people who relied on us to protect their working conditions and the welfare of their families. Any help you can offer will help us to fight this attempt by the National Union to silence our voices.

As a group and as a surrogate family, we have always believed in helping other working families in need; unfortunately, we find ourselves in need today.
