Rebuilding after Hurricane Harvey

I'm a single mom in Houston, TX.  My daughter is in college and it takes everything that I earn and then some to pay for tuition, rent, food and manage my household. Houston was recently hit by Hurricane Harvey and over 450,000 homes were affected and tens of thousands of people were displaced. Unfortunately, I was one of them. I lost all of the furniture and appliances in my home as the flood water and seepage came in faster than I could lift things off of the floor and unplug them. My entire home had water inside and my closets were affected as well. I evacuated with the clothes on my back, another change of clothes and some personal items. I waded on foot for an hour or so through thigh high water to my nearest relative's home because the rescue teams, 911, The Red Cross and the U.S. Coast Guard weren't in my area. Suffice it to say, it was a VERY devastating experience. I am grateful for my life because many of my fellow citizens didn't make it. I don't have flood insurance and it's been a few weeks since the flood with no definitive word from FEMA or my homeowners policy which has flood exclusion. I've been employed with my current company for nearly 27 years and I work hard everyday.

I spoke with a contractor and just the preliminary estimate is mind blowing!  Cleanup is underway and it's SO hard to see memories get discarded, things that can never be replaced. Walls and flooring still need to be removed. The requested amount will aid in repairs needed inside and out including roofing, appliances, furniture replacement and many other needed things.
