Tents for the Homeless

Donation protected
Uptown Tent City, a small group of local homelessness advocates need your help for the homeless people that live under the Wilson, Lawrence, and Foster Viaducts of Lake Shore Drive, and in the nearby parks along the lakefront in Chicago's Uptown Neighborhood.

These folks need tents as a short-term defense against the elements, until they can get permanent affordable housing. They also need good quality socks, personal (especially feminine) hygiene products, tarps, handwarmers, and blankets. We are estimating about 50 tent/tarp combos plus the other items.

We need funds now! Winter was late getting here, but it hit with a vengeance on Monday December 28, and the wind and sleet really tore up quite a few of the tents, soaking the few personal belongings they have, and putting them in danger of hypothermia. There are also some new arrivals that don't have tents at all.

We've spent personal money on tents and socks, helped some of them move their stuff to storage, and given rides to appointments, but our personal funds can't keep up with the needs. So we would be so grateful to be able to go to the store and buy tents and socks and mats and whatnot for our friends, to help them survive until they can get permanent affordable housing. We can't do it alone, and this is a way that YOU can help.
