Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to help veterans who served aboard the USS Mariano G. Vallejo SSBN 658
. The ship is having a Sail Dedication and an All-Hands reunion Oct 24th, 2019 in Vallejo, California
; where the submarine was constructed.
The dedicated crewmen who served aboard spent months at a time away from their families submerged in the Silent Service as part of the deterrent force during the Cold War.
The living quarters were small with a crew of 140 officers and men cramped into a ship 425' long for weeks at a time submerged. A camaraderie was formed that would never end. The crew became a very large extended family and many of those friendships continue 40 and 50 years later.
The funds would be used as "needs-based" grants for crew members who have financial hardships and might otherwise miss this important milestone in the ship's history. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.Mare Island Historic Park Foundation
