USMC Vet/Blue Star Mom needs Help

Donation protected
We’re working to help the Blue Star Mom with a son in the United States Marine Corps who was also a Marine herself as she works to get back on her feet and moving forward with her life. Heather is a single mother with three amazing children. Her eldest son is currently serving in the Marines on active duty. Her daughter graduated a year early from high school and is now working and saving up to go to DVC in the fall, while her youngest son is starting his sophomore year of high school and is going to play Varsity football.

Heather’s service in the Marine Corps started in 1994 where she and her then husband were assigned to the same unit. Two years into her service, she became pregnant and was set to continue serving with the support of her husband. These plans changed when he was deployed overseas and based on policy she was unable to accompany him. During the timeframe this was occurring, there were no accommodations for pregnant service members that had no family or assistance in the local area. Thus, Heather received her Honorable Discharge three weeks before her son was born.

After the Marine Corps, Heather was hired at a medical transport company where she spent nearly nine years working as an EMT and county manager. Unfortunately, downsizing at the company left her unemployed for the first time in nearly a decade. Although she has been working to find gainful employment, the challenges of being a single mother, maintaining a household and all that entails have left Heather in need of some assistance. When challenges build on top of one another, the person struggling is left feeling as if they’re in quicksand, the more you struggle, the deeper you sink. This is our effort to toss her a much-needed lifeline.

At this point, she is struggling to make ends meet, all her utilities are behind and she is also behind on her rent to the point wherein the concern about eviction grows with each passing day. The Veteran Support Organizations in the Bay Area have started helping Heather with what they can and have done a stellar job. Several people are working with Heather to find her employment that will allow her to again be self-sustaining and support her family.  She is currently pursuing an employement opportunity but has again run into the lack of funds impacting her ability to improve her situation.  This potential job has required training and the funds to pay for it just aren't available.

The one challenge that is hard to meet is the funding to help cover the items listed above and the necessities every family requires. This is where we can help get this Marine and Blue Star Mom heading in the right direction.
