Make it and Break it

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Patty Gurman, and together with my eldest Child, would like the opportunity to help others that have been affected by mental health by delivering Make it and Break it workshops in Waltham Forest.

“Make it and Break It”, is a two-and-a-half-hour workshop where participants affected by mental health (directly or indirectly) can decorate their own designed piñata and then smash it if they wish to do so.

We will provide the pre-prepared piñata base (made with recycled materials) ready for the participants, who can then decorate it however they like.

Our story

For the past 6 years, my eldest has suffered from depression and social anxiety and we were looking for different activities or support groups that could help us, but without any success.  The need for support is there, and more and more we are seeing cases of individuals, from as young as 4 to 99+ years old that have been affected by depression.

While my children were growing up I used to make Piñatas as a fun activity for their birthday parties, and when my eldest was suffering I didn’t know how to help them or motivate them so I reverted back to making piñatas as a relief strategy and invited them to join me. The more we worked together the more we were able to communicate and relax and positively release what we were both feeling while navigating life with mental health issues. We have experienced the positive effect that this creative outlet can have on individuals suffering or being affected by mental health.

Here's where you come in, the money raised from this campaign will be used to pay for 200 participants costing £25 each. That cost covers to 3 workshops per individual,  materials, premises, publicity and preparation time. We aim to make these workshops available to the community for a one off fee of £5 (to cover refreshments)  but we also wish to be able to offer places for free to those who are unable to pay. We intend to deliver 66 workshops over a period of 2 years.

We would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read and listen to our campaign and if you are not able to support us financially at this time, you can still help us by posting our project on facebook, twitter and other social medias.

We also sell piñatas online as a source of income as we deliver the workshops and would appreciate your support by liking our facebook and instagram pages  @Sweet.Paper.Creations as well as sharing it with others that you think would like to indulge in this Latino American tradition in their celebrations.
