Hi,

We have set up this page in the hope to raise money for treatment for Matts Grade 4 Glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is an aggressive type of brain tumour, the average glioblastoma survival time is 12-18 months – only 25% of patients survive more than one year, and only 5% of patients survive more than five years.

Please read Matthew’s story...

So as some of you know, back in January 2024 Matthew had a scan following seizures in September 2023. In the February it revealed he had a mass on his brain. Two weeks after our wedding Matthew had his first surgery to remove as much of the mass and for a biopsy to take place. The results came back with a heart-breaking result of a Grade 4 Glioblastoma.

He then has radiotherapy and chemotherapy from July through to January 2025, in January 2025 the scans showed progression of the tumour, it was monitored and in April 2025 Matthew underwent a second surgery after scans showed significant growth, he then had a different chemotherapy. After just 2 rounds of chemotherapy scans in July showed further aggressive progression. We since have a had a further scan, showing the tumour has diffused and spread further.

The type of tumour Matthew has doesn't respond well to chemotherapy and is extremely aggressive. The NHS have extremely limited treatments for Glioblastoma, there is no cure. Glioblastomas have been treated the same way for the past 20years as it does not have the funding for research for treatment and cures.

We have reached a stage where the NHS have a limited choice of treatment, the third line treatment is chemotherapy which has a less than 10% chance of fighting the tumour and significant risks to Matthews current health.

We have explored all avenues and there is a treatment called Avastin which will hopefully relieve Matthew from his symptoms, reduce swelling of the brain and stop the progression of the tumour itself. This treatment is not available on the NHS and as you can imagine is not cheap therefore, we are asking for your help and support.

As a family we hold a tremendous amount of hope in the drug to allow Matthew to continue to be a the incredible father to our two young children, Darcey 8 and Rupert 4 and a husband to myself Annie as well as being a much loved and adored son, brother and friend.

It has been a long and stressful road over the past couple of years and it would a great help if we could gather some funds for Matthew’s treatment to continue at the Royal Marsden.

Matt has remained so strong along the way and for those who have known and stood by us every step of the way we cannot express our gratitude. The next step is a little too large for us to face and so we are asking if you could help us on this leg of our journey.

Thank you for taking the time to read Matthew’s story.

All my love
Annie
