The cost of the program is $2,450 per person based on shared accommodations. We are hoping to raise a portion of the funds needed to cover the study tour. This includes room and board, lunch during the week, and the Reggio programming.
Our final payment is Due Feb. 1, 2019

Ms. Terry and Ms. Sarah are excited to join a five state study group traveling to Reggio Emilia, Italy from May 25-June 1, 2019. The five state collaborative includes educators from California, New Mexico, Arizona, Illinois, and Missouri who share a commitment to advance a unified voice that values and advocates for the educational rights of young children, families, and educators within the context of their communities.

About Ms. Terry:
Theresa Stofocik is our Lead Pre-K teacher, many people know her as Terry. She has been working at Temple Beth Shalom Preschool for 6 years. Terry's love for the Reggio Emilia approach began in 2008 when she was taking care of a little girl in NYC who attended Chelsea Day School in Manhattan. Terry was amazed by the teachers and students love for learning. They were partners in adventure, investigation, and research. They listened to each other’s ideas, interests, hopes, and fears. Together they decided on how to make the most of their learning environment. She went on to pursue her master’s degree in early childhood education and taught in NYC for her first year before moving to Santa Fe. She loves being a part of the TBS teaching team and community. It is an honor to be working alongside dedicated and nurturing individuals that really love making a difference in children’s lives.
About Ms. Sarah:
Sarah Harrison has been a part of the Temple Beth Shalom Preschool community since she moved to Santa Fe four years ago. Sarah taught in two different classrooms before stepping into the Director role at TBS. She has a degree in Art Education and has over 12 years of experience in early childhood.
Sarah had heard of the Reggio approach years ago, but really began to study it after experiencing The Wonder of Learning exhibition in 2014. She has attended many workshops and trainings to expand her knowledge of the Reggio approach and principles.
One of Sarah's favorite things about working in early childhood is the ability to continuously learn and grow as an educator. She has a passion for art, nature, and early childhood education. Sarah is a member of NAEYC, Children and Nature Network, and The Collaborative Teachers Institute. She continues her personal education journey by taking courses at SFCC and CNM.
About Us:
Terry and Sarah are both members of the Collaborative Teacher's Institute. The Collaborative Teachers Institute is a group of early childhood teachers in Santa Fe interested in pursuing advanced, collaborative professional development. Participating programs and teachers study children's interests through a reflective practice approach. The CTI helps teachers achieve their potential so that the youngest children in Santa Fe can achieve theirs.
Through the Collaborative Teacher's Institute, we have been able to reflect on our practice with other educators in New Mexico. The CTI has allowed us to expand our knowledge and understanding of Reggio principles through research, discussion, and special events. It has also helped us to build pedagogical leadership skills and develop a reflective teaching practice.
The Study Tour:
During the week long study tour, we'll have opportunities for dialogue and exchange with educators in Reggio Emilia. The program will include background on the pedagogical, historical, cultural, and social aspects of the Reggio Emilia Approach to education, visits to preschools and infant toddler centers, and collaboration among participants. We will attend presentations by pedagogistas, atelieristas and teachers on the principles of the Educational Project and essential elements in the daily life of the preschools and infant toddler centers. We will spend time at the Loris Malaguzzi International Center to see current exhibitions, the ateliers, and the Documentation and Educational Research Center.
We are excited to embark on this professional development journey with fellow educators from New Mexico, and the other four states.
How you can help:
We are using this crowdfunding platform to help raise money to cover the cost of the week-long study tour. The goal is to better apply this innovative teaching approach at Temple Beth Shalom Preschool and to share our experience with staff, families, and the community. We hope to continue to learn and grow as educators and offer the highest quality early childhood experience to Santa Fe families. Together we can create a powerful and loving network of child advocates, educators, and support systems for New Mexican families.
