URGENT Housing Appeal for Young Disabled Palestinian Child!
Donation protected
This is an urgent fundraiser to help get Yousef Hatem (13), a Disabled Palestinian child, and his family housed. His family are sleeping on the streets of Gaza right now, and are exhausted, traumatised, and exposed to the elements, with the sound of rockets falling around them constantly.
Aid agencies are aware of Yousef’s desperate situation, but with no aid being allowed to enter Gaza, and the infrastructure having been decimated, there is no way of getting a tent or any other supplies to the family.
The family have found a building to rent in a currently designated ‘safe zone’, in Mawasi Khan Yunis. So, we are aiming to raise £2,300 as soon as possible, which will cover the three months’ upfront rent they need to secure it.
Background information:
Yousef is a wheelchair user with complex health needs, due an incredibly painful connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS). EDS can affect mobility, cause extreme fatigue, frequent joint injury, gastrointestinal issues, bone abnormalities, and comes with many related illnesses that are hard to manage. Yousef had complex spinal surgery in Jerusalem the week before October 7, 2023.
The following ten months since Yousef’s surgery should have involved consistent aftercare, such rest, physio, nourishment, pain management and specialists checking his progress. But instead, he and his family have been displaced repeatedly, their home bombed, hounded by the occupation, chased from ‘safe zone’ to ‘safe zone’, all while Yousef’s mobility has declined.
For about two months, the family have been sheltering in a vacant building in the designated ‘safe zone’ (Maghazi). But last week, the IOF dropped notes onto the area, telling people to evacuate immediately. Yousef, his mother and older siblings have been sleeping on the street since the evacuation orders were dropped. They tried to find somewhere else to stay but they don’t even have a tent, none are available to buy, and none can reach them through aid agencies.
Help Yousef and his family raise £2300, to get them housed urgently. If you can’t donate, please share.
Please note: This GoFundMe was set up with the family’s blessing and is separate to the main GoFundMe for the family’s evacuation costs - which are also very important, so all the family can evacuate together as soon as the border reopens. No one can be left behind.
