Urgent Vet Care for Alvers & Eedie

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

Our best friend and all-round top human Rah needs a hand! Two of their rescue animals are critically ill and in need of urgent care.

If you’ve ever met Eedie, you know she is the most delightful dog. After getting to be her housemate for years Steph started saying “unleash your inner Eedie” if anyone was having a bad day! She makes everyone’s day!

Eedie had three surgeries last year due to ruptured cruciate ligaments in both back legs! This past Sunday she developed an illness for which the cause is yet to be determined, despite multiple tests. She is currently extremely ill with vomiting, a cough, a fever and is very lethargic, and hasn’t eaten for five days. She spent the day at the vet on IV fluids yesterday and will be returning tomorrow for further tests and to commence syringe feeding. She will need intensive care and further tests which may include seeing a specialist sonographer and testing of her bone marrow, as an autoimmune disease is suspected.

Alvers is let’s face it - the most beautiful being on this earth. No one has ever not worshipped him. He is truly a special bean and we all adore him. Julia (his cool Aunt) cries frequently just thinking about how perfect he is.

Alvers developed a growth in his eye a couple of months ago. Subsequent ultrasounds revealed this was a tumour, and after surgery to remove the entire eye he had a very rough recovery which saw him back to the vet multiple times. On Wednesday the biopsy results came back and showed that the eye tumour was malignant and secondary, meaning there is at least one other cancerous tumour somewhere in his body. He needs to see a specialist sonographer to try to find out where the cancer is, and whether it is treatable or not.

They both mean the world to Rah and Rah means the world to us! But they’re both (yet again) in need of some very expensive medical care! Their medical expenses to date have already drained Rah who spent $1100 on vet bills in the last 2 days and we’re hoping that by putting the word out our community can get behind them and assist in getting them both the care they need and deserve.

Rah has lost shifts at work during the pandemic and in their role as a support worker was recently exposed to Covid and had to quarantine resulting in even more lost work. Even prior to the pandemic, Rah and their animals have had a rough few years. First their beautiful cat Jymes became sick, and they had to take out a $6000 loan to try a lifesaving surgery which was sadly unsuccessful and since then, there has been multiple (costly) injuries and illnesses and scares with the remaining animals.

Rah is the first to help out others and I hope we are able to return the favour for them to help get Eedie and Alvers as healthy as can be! They are emotionally and financially drained and have refused our offers to create a Go Fund Me for a long time and tried to do it on their own (even going without food sometimes to give the animals what they needed), but it’s reached a critical point and they really need our help! This last 18 months has been rough for everyone, and we know a lot of people are struggling, for those who do have some change to spare, it would be very much appreciated.
