Hello, my name is Solyana, and I’m an international nursing student from Ethiopia studying at Augustana University in South Dakota.

I came to the U.S. with a dream: to earn a degree, build a better future, and support my family and community back home. I’ve worked hard and earned a 4.0 GPA in my first semester, determined to make the most of this opportunity.

I was fortunate to receive a partial scholarship, but i am responsible for covering roughly $20,000 myself. I am working the maximum hours allowed on my F‑1 student visa (20 hours/week), yet I still cannot earn enough to meet my school’s required payment schedule.

Adding to my challenge, my parents who once supported me are now unable to help. Their small workshop in Ethiopia was demolished as part of the government’s “Corridor Lemat” project, leaving them with no source of income.

Why I Need Help Right Now

My university requires that I pay $5,000 by August 15 just to remain enrolled this fall. The entire semester cost is $10,987, which must be paid by October. If I cannot meet the August deadline, I will lose my chance to continue my education despite all my hard work.
