Urgent Trip to PA for Sick Brother

I have started this GFM campaign for my dear friend Jan Bunten in an effort to get Jan and her kids to PA to visit her brother in July.  See Jan's message below:

Many of you already know that my brother Rob was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.  He went into the hospital with abdominal pain on a Tuesday and had his diagnosis by Thursday.  It was a huge shock to our family.  He has a wife and three kids and is utterly devoted to them.  He is getting aggressive treatment but pancreatic cancer is an aggressive cancer.

He lives in Pittsburgh so I wasn’t sure I would even see him again, but some of my friends jumped into action right away to help make sure that I can.

What I would like to do is to take all four of my kids with me by car and spend about a week up there, along with a couple of days travel time for a total of about a ten day trip.  Here is a breakdown of my estimated expenses:

Gas $250
Meals for 5 people $500
Hotel $800 (Rob’s family would probably be willing to let us stay with them but since there are 5 of us, I don’t want to be a burden to them during an already difficult time.)

Two of my kids probably won’t be able to go unless they can cut the trip short and fly back early.  They can’t miss that much work.  Two one-way tickets from PIT to ATL ~$300

Total = $1,850

Anything beyond that will go directly to the trip to make my time up there more relaxed so that I can focus on the visit and savor the time with my brother and his family.  My daughter will need a little gas money to get to Atlanta from Jacksonville, FL and back.  She will also have to miss an entire week of work, unpaid, so if I can I would like to contribute something to her so that she can at least cover her bills during that time.

Those of you who have known me for a while know that I have never asked for money for anything.  This situation is unique.  I am on SSI disability and there is no way I could afford to do this without asking for help.  Rob is feeling good right now and I’d like to be able to see him soon.  Many, many thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help or share the link.
