We are asking for help to cover the cost of $2000 in emergency vet expenses for our beloved Mila. 5 years is no where near long enough with our girl.

Sunday night Mila (our dog) came up to me with a sewing needle she got from our daughter’s room. I assume it was left behind from previous tenants. She found it and it was stuck in her mouth and I tried to pull it and couldn’t. She swallowed it and I immediately took her to the ER vet in swansboro. We have paid $1800 for an endoscopy to try and get it out.

Diagnostics: A 1 view radiograph showed a large sewing needle in the stomach. A small blood panel to check electrolytes, liver and kidney values prior to anesthesia showed no significant abnormalities.

Vet Summary: Our concerns for Mila include a large sewing needle in the stomach. We discussed options

for retrieval of the needle, including endoscopy or surgery. You elected to move forward with endo-

scopy, but unfortunately, despite significant efforts, we were unable to retrieve the needle. A large

amount of sewing thread was also found in the stomach, a small amount of it was removed, but a lot still remains attached to the needle. We recommended converting to surgery to remove the foreign material, but unfortunately this was not possible at this time due to financial constraints, so Mila was

awoken from anesthesia.

With the foreign material (needle and thread) still being present within the GI tract, there is a high risk of either the needle imbedding in GI tract and/or the thread becoming linear and causing damage to stomach and/or intestines. We recommend contacting other veterinarians in the area as soon as possible to see if a facility can do surgery for lower costs, or on a payment plan.

We know Mila is extremely loved and we know she has so much life left to give. With it being a holiday weekend we are not able to even contact our regular vet until the morning. We are praying this will pass on its own without harming her but we know it is not likely. We thank you.
