<div>Hello my name is Melissa though many know me as Renée. This handsome orange boy is Kabocha which means pumpkin in Japanese. We rescued him as a stray on Halloween in 2018 when he was just a couple months old. He is the most snuggly cat I have ever had the pleasure of befriending. He is precious and essential to our little family and thick as thieves with his little sister Wu Wu. He's only 7 years old and has been battling chronic constipation which has now advanced to obstipation (completely unable to go no matter how hard he strains). Obstipation can lead to further complications like mega colon and can be life threatening if unresolved. We have already had him seen at Veterinary Emergency Group twice. The first time on Thursday September 18th they did an enema and manual de-obstipation then sent us home to see if things started moving on their own. He was able to pass a little bit at home over night but that was the last time he had a bowel movement. We brought him back to VEG on Saturday the 20th since he was still not eating and straining to pass anything else. They kept him overnight and pumped him full of IV fluids and laxatives through an Nasogastric tube. They also did Enemas every 6 hours to try and soften/loosen things up to make it easier for him to pass. Even with this 24 hour hospital stay he was unable to pass anything. The unfortunate thing about veterinary hospitalization and surgeries is that they make you pay in advance so we hit our financial limit to keep him in hospital care. We have continued to do what we can for him at home giving him lactulose (a laxative/stool softener prescribed by the vet), Miralax mixed with his food, Cat lax once a day and giving him enemas ourselves every 8 hours to try and soften things up enough to pass. Since our efforts have been fruitless up to this point the vets are saying his blockage needs to be surgically removed. The cost of the surgery can be anywhere from $2,000-$8,000 depending on the severity of the case and they are estimating about $3,000-$6,000 for our case. Kabocha is such a a sweet and loving cat who is my little spoon every night and I can't bear to lose my soul kitty at such a young age. We are thankful for anything you can spare as we fight the clock to get him the care he desperately needs.
