I wanted to add that I’m having a hard time finding shelter that is even vaguely affordable while searching for someone who accepts the rapid rehousing program. If anyone knows of a basement apartment or a couple of rooms for rent at a cheap price on a temporary basis please reach out to me. I can’t afford extended stays or motels. 

I’m reaching out because my son and I are in a really tough spot and I could use some help. I’m a single parent to a nine-year-old boy who is my world. He has autism, ADHD, ODD, and depression, and while he’s incredible, his needs mean life can be unpredictable. Because of our housing instability his mental health has taken a hit as well as mine. He has an IEP at school, but his challenges often lead to him being sent home, which has made it nearly impossible for me to hold down a full-time job. Over the years, I’ve done my best to keep us afloat, but recently, we lost our housing.

For a while, we’ve been crashing on a friend’s couch, but that option has run out. Right now, we’re facing homelessness with nowhere to turn. Let me tell you that when your child can’t stop crying and keeps saying, ”I want to go home” and your only reply is, “we don’t have a home anymore” your heart breaks in ways you never knew existed.

I’ve applied for Social Security to get support for my son, but the process takes time, and we need help now. I’m swallowing my pride to ask for any support you might be able to offer—whether it’s a few dollars, a share of this message, or any ideas for resources. My goal is to raise enough for temporary housing to keep us safe and stable while I work on a longer-term plan.
