Urgent Need for Artist-Delight
On July 9, Delight's husband, Gary, was diagnosed with an advanced stage of Leukemia that also metastasized to his stomach and soft tissue in his chest. The only treatment that could have helped Gary is simply too dangerous and aggressive due to his age and other health conditions. The doctors have estimated his mortality around two months given the stage of this cancer.
Needless to say they are devastated and this has placed Delight in a financially dire scenario as she was about to participate as a vendor in her annual show at Great Lakes Medieval Faire which runs for the next six weeks. She now needs to immediately fly home to South Carolina to be with her husband to take care of him.
Delight and Gary have been close personal friends of my family for many years and are an important part of many of our mutual collector, friend, and renaissance faire community lives. If ever there was a time to be generous and offer financial help to these special people, now is the time. I have been asked by Delight to manage this GoFundMe on her and Gary's behalf.
Due to the fact that Delight will need to be home with her husband, she will be unable to earn the money that is desperately necessary for their financial survival as would have been earned during the run of the faire by her being present personally. This $5000 is an estimate and a minimum necessary to make up for the losses of not being able to fully participate at GLMF. This will also be used to cover plane fare, travel back and forth to the hospital which is in excess of 79 miles from their home and basic needs to keep them afloat for the next two months.
On a personal note; Delight and Gary are in their 70's and have supported the arts and other fellow artists for more than 5 decades. I am reaching out to my fellow artists, collectors, and friends for any amount that you can afford and would be most helpful in this urgent situation. At one point in all our lives, we will be right where Delight and Gary are and I would hope we would all have friends that would come forth and help in our dire moment of need.
