To those in the mycology community and beyond,
We’re reaching out to ask for your support for our dear friend Jack, who is facing a deeply challenging personal situation.
Out of respect for his privacy and the complexity of what he’s going through, many details cannot be shared.
But here’s what we can say:
Jack is more than just a part of our community.
He’s a teacher, a mentor, a helper, a friend. He shares his knowledge and expertise freely, expecting nothing in return. He’s someone you turn to when you need guidance or support.
He’s a pillar in this world of ours — his expertise is unmatched, and he’s brought so many of us together.
He’s truly a cultivator of genuine human connection.
He’s compassionate, deeply ethical, and always striving to do right by the people in his life.
But right now, Jack is facing a very painful and precarious situation — one that threatens his livelihood and stability.
He needs our help.
This isn’t charity — THIS is mutual aid. THIS is what community looks like.
THIS is where WE get to embody the values we claim to hold so dearly.
Because this isn’t just about one man’s struggle.
It’s about what it means to stand by the people who give so much of themselves to build something real and beautiful for others.
When someone who has always given selflessly finds themselves in crisis, we don’t turn away — we show up.
Jack is a part of our mycelial network.
He’s a member of our chosen family.
He’s helped build this community — not just a safe place, but one that feels like home.
We understand how hard it is to ask for help — especially when you’re someone who’s always been the one offering it.
That’s why we’re stepping in on his behalf.
Let’s nourish the roots that have nourished us.
There is an immediate and urgent need to reach at least half of this goal as quickly as possible — this situation is time-sensitive.
Please respect his privacy, we ask that you don't reach out to Jack directly for more details. We know your concern comes from a place of care, and that means everything. But again, let’s give him space.
If you have questions, feel free to message me directly, and I will share what I can.
With love and gratitude,
Becca.
