Does this look like the face of an orphan? A child who was in hospital 2 mths ago and given only days to live? A boy who grew up living and working on a trash dump? A boy who witnessed his mother be bulldozed to death while scavenging trash to feed her children? A boy who a few years later witnessed hundreds in his community buried alive on this dump? A child that has a heart condition so severe that he WILL DIE without surgery.
Well, it is! Perhaps the sweet smile on his face is because - after months of searching for answers and a way of getting him outside of the country for surgery - he's just been told there is hope!
After reaching out to multiple organizations we (2 North American moms who met Moges and his brother while working in Ethiopia) were able to connect with Dr. Rick Hodes of Ethiopian Spines( https://rickhodes.org ). Moges was selected out of hundreds of Ethiopian children needing surgery because Dr. Hodes believes this surgery will save Moges' life. Without it, Dr. Hodes has told us that Moges will die and his younger brother will say goodbye to his entire family.
WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW! Moges is scheduled to go with a team of 11 other patients to India to receive the surgery he desperately needs in just TWO weeks!
WE MUST RAISE $12,000 in 12 days to cover the costs.
We've already come so far.... people have given to provide a warm, safe home where Moges has been receiving hospice care... our BHDO staff in Ethiopia have spent night and day with Moges and his brother, caring for them. And as his spirits have risen, his health has improved.
We believe this all happened to get him to this place - strong enough to make this trip to India for surgery - just in time to save his life.
We need you to give - we've had 2,000 viewers reading about his story on our DHI facebook page over the past two months and if everyone of those people gave $10, we'd have more than enough money.
Today we can be a part of literally rewriting this young boy's story. Today we have the opportunity to tangibly be a part of saving Moges' life.

Update: An anonymous giver has donated $12,000 for Moges directly through DHI (to eliminate extra fees)! We are SO grateful that God has answered our prayers in this extraordinary way!
We will continue this campaign as we've currently been raising funds week to week to cover the cost of the guesthouse where he is living. With a lump sum of money we can look at a better, more cost effective solution to provide Moges and his brother, Wale, with a warm, safe home pre and post-surgery, knowing this is essential for his full recovery.

Moges and brother - swinging for the first time in his life at the guesthouse where kind donors have made it possible for him to stay. Honestly, we didn't think he'd make it more than a week and brought him here to die - we never expected his health to improve so dramatically.

Little did we know that in this case, time waiting to find a doctor who would take on Moges' case, was exactly what he needed to regain his strength to be ready for surgery.
