Urgent help for medical and living expenses

I am reaching out to family, friends and the kindness of strangers, and hoping I may find much needed help for my niece, Helen. The following is her very difficult and sad story, and I thank you for your time and attention in reading this. In the past year she has suffered the devastating effects of Stage 3 breast cancer. She has survived, and is now in remission, only after enduring months of chemotherapy and treatment, and the terrible side effects of the chemicals She was left in a greatly weakened condition, and as was expected, lost her hair during the treatment, and is now very frail and thin.

She struggles daily, and has no family nearby. Even on the worst days of her illness she refused to give up, and was in a desperate struggle to continue working so as not to lose her income. Unfortunately, her car completely broke down, and she did not have the funds for the massive repair. She chose to return it, and was left with no transportation. As a result, she had no choice but to begin taking a bus to work.

The cancer left her physically weak, and it was always difficult and painful for her to walk to the bus stop. As a result, she lost her balance and fell down on a broken sidewalk and suffered a serious injury to her knee on April 12th of this year. She landed very hard on the concrete and broke her knee cap in four places. She has had three surgeries since then, in an attempt to correct the damage, and will need two months of intense physical therapy to regain the use of her leg. She will only be able to walk with the help of crutches for at least three months, and her knee will remain in a straight brace for that period of time. Because of the extensive damage, she will be unable to bend it or walk, until after receiving help from a therapist. The surgeon has advised her that it will take at least six months to heal, and unfortunately, after that time she will need additional surgery to remove the pins and wires that held her knee cap in place.

She was given a medical leave from her job, but is not being paid for her time off. She feels deeply stressed that she has no income to pay the rent and utilities on her apartment, and needs immediate help to avoid eviction. Her medical bills also now far exceed her insurance coverage, and they continue to add up. Depending on her recovery, she will not be able to return to work until August 3rd of this year.

The continuing misfortune of Helen’s situation is devastating to her, but she refuses to give up hope. She has always been a strong woman, and a hard worker, but her life so tragically changed with the onset of her breast cancer. I am asking that you please help with your financial donations to help her through this very difficult time, until she is once again able to return to work and care for herself.
