Urgent Help Needed for “The Pats”

As many of you know, my good friend Patty Goon has a condition called Scleroderma. Scleroderma is an autoimmune condition that has gradually caused Patty’s skin and internal organs to harden. It has impacted every aspect of her life.
Patty depends on her longtime boyfriend Pat for every aspect of her day to day life. Pat must help Patty to get dressed, to eat, to care for most of her personal needs, to get in and out of bed, to get in and out of a chair, and to get around in their home.
Pat and Patty live in a condo that is not at all handicap accessible. In order to get her outside, Pat basically needs to lift her slowly up each step. There are six concrete steps. Six. This is scary for everyone, incredibly painful for her, and unsafe.
To get Patty to her bedroom, Pat needs to help her down a full flight of stairs. You can imagine how exhausting, painful and scary this is. I watched him doing this last weekend, I can’t imagine how they have managed to do it for this long.
Now here is the hard part. Pat is very sick. Because of the treatment he is receiving, he is going to have to move back in with his parents for at least a few months so that he can concentrate on getting healthy again.
The Pats need your help. Patty wants desperately to stay in her own home. At 39 years old, moving into a nursing home would be devastating for her. Patty desperately need a stair lift and a wheelchair ramp as soon as possible. Her insurance pays for none of this. Believe me, I’ve checked.
If you can help in any way towards the expenses Pat and Patty are looking at for equipment, they would appreciate it more than words can express. I have known Patty for 20+ years, and Pat for almost 10. They are incredibly private people (you guys know this). So you know things have to be pretty bad if they are asking for your help.
