My name is Dale Hurst, and I’m writing with a heavy heart on behalf of the Short family. A tragedy has struck our loved ones, and they need our help now more than ever. A devastating fire has destroyed the home of four Proctorville, Ohio residents—Jennifer, Brittany, Aubrey, and Julia. This loss is unimaginable, and I’m reaching out to you today to ask for your support.

Jennifer, along with her daughter Brittany and Brittany’s two young daughters, Julia (4) and Aubrey (2), were left with nothing after the fire tore through their home. As a result, they have been forced to move in with my sister Elaine, who lives in nearby Chesapeake, Ohio. Elaine, the heart of our family, is an incredible woman who has always put her family first, opening her arms to Jennifer and her children. But with eight people now crammed into a small 3-bedroom apartment, it’s been incredibly hard.

The family has been through so much, including losing the father of the little ones just months ago, and now, the family is without a home. My sister has always been there for everyone, despite her own ongoing health struggles and a mountain of medical bills. She doesn’t ask for help, even when she needs it most. But right now, I’m asking for you to open your hearts and help.

They have lost everything—clothes, toys, memories. The little ones, especially, are facing the most heartbreaking loss, and I can’t bear to imagine how hard it will be for them to rebuild their lives. But they can’t do it alone. Your donations will help provide clothes, replace lost toys, and help them find some sense of normalcy as they begin the long journey of rebuilding their home.

Elaine has always been there for her family, taking care of her grandchildren and others, sacrificing her own comfort to ensure they have what they need. Now, she needs our help. They need funds to clear the property and rebuild, but without the resources, it’s a challenge that feels insurmountable. This is where we all come in.

Every penny donated will go directly to the Short family, helping them with immediate needs like clothes, personal items, and temporary living arrangements. The funds will be held in a Wells Fargo savings account, and I will work directly with Jennifer and Elaine to ensure the funds are used as soon as possible.

This winter in Ohio will be tough, and without their usual clothes and toys to comfort them, the girls will need warmth and security.
