Hello! My name is Luna-P and I desperately need your help! Last Saturday, I hurt my back and saw the vet. I got prednisone and gabapentin and was still walking, eating, drinking, and going potty. Early Friday morning, I screamed in pain and was suddenly paralyzed from the waist down, couldn't go potty, and was in monumental pain. I had gotten an advanced stage of IVDD and needed neurological surgery on my spine ASAP or I was going to die! Well, I am only 5 years old and my mom and dad's whole world.
Our local vet ER couldn't do an x-ray or do the surgery just because it was Friday afternoon... So they called around and a vet ER in Bend, OR was the closest place that could do surgery ASAP, and that surgery will cost upwards of $11,000. My parents had to make a hard choice: go over $11,000 in debt or put me to rest. They did not want to lose me, so they decided to go forward with surgery. So my mom, Lori, and her best friend, Misty, drove all night through a terrible rainstorm to get me the help I desperately needed.
We got there just as the pain medicine was wearing off and we got straight into the vet. They got me in immediately and went over the surgery and risks with my mom. Even after the surgery, I could still get myelomalacia and die anyway within a week of surgery and I still may never walk again. My parents know I am strong, so they went ahead with everything. This veterinary office was so nice and is taking such good care of me!
I went into surgery in the wee hours of the morning and was a champ through all of it. My mom couldn't wait to see me post-operation. She came in the morning and I got to video chat with my daddy, Aaron. They were so happy to see me doing so well. Sadly, my mom had to go home as I had to stay a couple of days to make sure I was fit to go home. The vet and her assistants have been sending pictures and updates, so my parents know how things are going.
So far, so good! I have finally been able to lay down after not being able to for days due to the pain in my back. I have been getting plenty of IV fluids with electrolytes and finally started eating again! These meds can make me very nauseous. I'm doing better each day and can't wait for my mom to come get me tomorrow! Until then, they are taking good care of me and giving frequent updates to my parents. A nice assistant there gave me lots of blankets and I got to watch some TV on her phone!
Now, the reason I'm here is that my parents need your help! They are going into great debt to save my life and the bills are going to continue to stack up. I am going to need many more vet visits, more medicine, physical therapy, acupuncture, and who knows what else. Your donations will go towards the huge surgery bill and all of the expenses to come. With your help, I can continue to live a happy, fulfilling life with my parents. They love me more than anything in this world (we don't talk about Akira, no no ). They are staying strong and focusing on the battle of recovery ahead.
I will continue to update you as things progress and show you why my life was worth saving. Many may say that I am just a dog, but, to my parents, I am their everything. To all of our friends, family, and the animal lovers donating to my cause: Thank you so much for seeing my worth and value in this world. Life is hard enough as it is for us all and 5 is too young to die. My parents already lost my doxie future baby daddy to IVDD a few years ago and couldn't stand that pain all over again. Thank you for all of your help and know that you are helping to save a well-loved, spoiled, strong, sassy little dachshund ❤️
