Adilena Martins, from Ceilândia, Federal District, Brazil, suffers from a series of chronic medical conditions (severe fibromyalgia, lumbar radiculopathy, bursitis of the shoulder, Type II Diabetes, cardiac illness) and has been placed on medically recommended sick leave. Despite 20 years of service to the same company, the Brazilian government has suspended her leave benefit payments, meaning that she can no longer afford her medical and living expenses. Her salary is desperately needed to support her household - 2 grandchildren and two daughters, one of whom is medically complicated.
