Urgent funding for bone marrow transplant
Donation protected
My name is Yasitha and I’m starting this fundraiser to help 15-year old Kalana Imanjith, who is the son of my friend, Anuradha Weerasinghe.
Kalana lives in Alawwa, Sri Lanka with his mother, father and little sister.
After several months of feeling unwell, in November 2022, at the age of 14, Kalana was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Following medical advice, he immediately undertook treatment and briefly won his fight for recovery.
But after 6 months’ remission and after just 1 year from the initial diagnosis, in November 2023 Kalana received the devastating news that he is now suffering from Relapsed Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
Kalana has been advised to undergo bone marrow transplant within weeks, which now is his only hope for survival. His little 7-year old sister is matched as his bone marrow donor.
Kalana just completed the 2nd round of Chemotherapy and is currently recovering in Apeksha Cancer Hospital in Colombo. He is under constant observation, receiving multiple blood and platelet transfusions.
While Kalana is under-going treatment, his family has been relentlessly working on to raise the much-needed funds for the bone marrow transplant and to source urgent medicine, some of which need to be imported, since they are not currently available in Sri Lanka. Estimated costs for the transplant is Rs.15 million (approximately AU$ 70,000) and so far funds collected amount to Rs.6 million (approximately AU$ 28,000). Kalana’s family is prepared to provide any necessary documentation or information to validate the urgency and necessity of the required medical procedures.
I’m gratefully seeking for your support and to spread the message of Kalana’s appeal to your family and friends.
On behalf of Kalana and his family, I extend my deepest gratitude for your support during this traumatic time.
With love,
Yasitha
