Urgent Care for Paco and Yuno's Recovery

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers, we have recurred to this method of fundraising because of a series of unfortunate events. We are Kali, Yarrow and Tato, 3 young people living in the Sacred Valley, in Urubamba/Cusco/Peru. Our beautiful dog, Paco, whom we adopted from the streets of Santa Teresa in 2022, began to suffer from pain about 4 months ago. After investigating what could be happening to him, we discovered that he had apparently been run over before we adopted him, breaking his hip and leg and damaging his spine quite badly. When we went to the vet, they told us that it was a miracle that he could walk and that he had not shown any major symptoms up to that point. After trying several different therapies, Paco seems to be doing better.

At the moment we are planning to raise the funds for what would follow with him locally, slowly, because he can walk and is in good spirits.

This plan is still in place, but we need faster support because our other dog, Yuno, lost the ability to walk from one day to the next. We took her straight to the vet and because of her symptoms, x-rays and ultrasound, it was thought that she had pyometra. So the vet decided to do an emergency surgery to see if it was that or something else. It was discovered that it was not pyometra, but her bladder was extremely full, indicating a possible neurological problem. So we were referred to a specialist in traumatology and neurology in Cusco for a more thorough diagnosis, and we learned that the treatment for both dogs was similar. First, an MRI, which according to all our veterinarians is of much better quality in Lima, the capital, where there are also specialists recommended by them. For this reason, we decided that the best option is to take them to Lima, where the chances of Yuno walking again are much greater than here in Cusco.

This has already gotten out of hand and there is nothing more we can do (financially). It should be noted that the three of us are 21, 20, and 18 years old, respectively, and the estimates for the treatment of the two dogs are around 10000 soles (∼2660$), an amount that definitely CANNOT only be reached through local raffles or savings. This amount will hopefully cover the surgeries, the MRI's and the tickets to and from Lima. Also, we estimate that we have spent about 1500 to 2000 soles (~405 to 540$) with Paco so far, and about 800 soles (~215$) in two days for Yuno. These amounts are very high and unsustainable for us.

We would also like to justify the fact that the amount mentioned above is not the same amount requested on gofundme, and that is because 10000 soles (∼2660$) would be the best case scenario. If, by some miracle, the amount would be lesser, all the excess would go directly into improving the quality of life for the two dogs, or into a fund for very likely future complications. In any case, for Paco and for Yuno.

To summarize, with Yuno we have a real urgency to help her, at this moment she CANNOT go to the bathroom without help, we have to press on her stomach so that she can relieve herself, because her nerves do not give the signals to her body to act on its own. In Lima, she has the best chance of walking again and being well. With Paco, we have less urgency, but we do not want him to be in a more painful situation or not be able to walk. What we need to do is to take them to Lima so that they can be better examined. Even though it is not that urgent with Paco, we want to take them both because going to Lima means that one or both of us will have to get travel permission from work, and of course double the expenses. That is why it is about the two of them.

Estimados amigos, familia, y desconocidos de buen corazón, acudimos a este método de recaudación de fondos por una serie de eventos desafortunados. Somos Kali, Yarrow, y Tato, 3 jóvenes que viven en el Valle Sagrado, en Urubamba/Cusco/Peru. Nuestro bello perro, Paco, que adoptamos de la calle en Santa Teresa, en el 2022, empezó a tener dolores hace unos 4 meses. Al investigar que le podría estar pasando descubrimos que aparentemente lo atropellaron antes de que lo adoptemos, rompiéndole la cadera, la pierna, y dañando bastante la columna. Cuando fuimos al veterinario, nos dijo que era un milagro que caminara, y que no haya mostrado síntomas mayores hasta ese momento. Tras intentar varias terapias, Paco parece estar mejor.

De momento, pensamos recaudar los fondos para lo que seguiría con él localmente, y lentamente, porque el puede caminar y está de buenos ánimos.

Este plan sigue en pie, pero necesitamos un apoyo más rápido porque nuestra otra perra, Yuno, de un día para el otro perdió la capacidad de caminar. La llevamos directo al veterinario y por sus síntomas, rayos x, y ecografía, se creía que era piometra. Por eso, la veterinaria decidió operarla de urgencia para ver si era esto o algo más. Se descubrió que no era piometra, sino que se trataba de su vejiga llena, indicando un posible problema neurológico. Por lo tanto, nos derivaron a un especialista en traumatología y neurología en Cusco para tener un diagnóstico más elaborado, nos enteramos de que el tratamiento de los dos perros iba por un camino algo similar. Primero, una resonancia magnética, que según todos nuestros veterinarios es de muchísima mejor calidad en Lima, la capital, donde también están especialistas recomendados por los mismos. Por esto hemos decidido que la mejor opción es llevarlos a Lima, porque las posibilidades de que Yuno vuelva a caminar allá son muchisimo mas grandes de lo que son aca en Cusco.

Esto ya se nos ha salido de las manos, y no hay nada más que podamos hacer (económicamente). Cabe destacar que los tres tenemos 21, 20, y 18 años respectivamente, y los estimados para el tratamiento de los dos perros están llegando a alrededor de 10000 soles (∼2660$), un monto casi inalcanzable solo con rifas locales o ahorros. Esta cifra esperamos que pueda cubrir las operaciones, las resonancias magnéticas, y los pasajes para llegar y volver de Lima. Además, hasta ahora, con Paco calculamos que hemos utilizado alrededor de 1500 a 2000 soles (∼405-540$), y en dos días para Yuno, unos 800 soles (∼215$) . Estas cantidades para nosotros son muy grandes e insostenibles.

También quisiéramos justificar el hecho que el monto mencionado arriba no es el mismo pedido en el gofundme, y es porque 10000 soles(∼2660$) en realidad sería el mejor de los casos. Si por milagro el monto fuera menor, todo el exceso iría directamente hacia mejorar la calidad de vida a los dos perros, o tener un fondo para muy probables futuras complicaciones. En todo caso, para Paco y para Yuno.

Para resumir, con Yuno, tenemos real urgencia para ayudarla, en estos momentos NO PUEDE ir al baño sin ayuda, hay que presionar su estómago para que logre hacer sus necesidades, porque su nervios no dan las señales a su cuerpo para que actúe solo. Lima es donde tiene las mejores posibilidades de caminar de nuevo y estar bien. Con Paco, tenemos menos urgencia, pero no queremos que llegue a estar en una situación más dolorosa o que ya no pueda caminar. Lo que toca es llevarlos a Lima, para que los revisen mejor. A pesar de que no sea tan urgente con Paco, queremos llevarlos a los dos ya que ir hasta Lima implica que alguno de nosotros o los dos tengamos que conseguir permisos en el trabajo y también por supuesto un gasto doble. Por esto se trata de ellos dos.
