We are moving forward! After a couple of months of community-wide discussions and many hours of work, attention and prayers, Urban Dharma is now poised to move forward with our continued presence in downtown Asheville. We will be moving to a new location!
77 Walnut Street is:
1) an even more centrally-located spot in the downtown area,
2) has more of a sanctuary feel to our current location and,
3) is financially sustainable moving forward.
[We only started to look for an alternative location when we were unexpetedly informed by the landlord of our current location that the building is under contract for sale and part of the plan of the future landlord involves transforming the second floor of our current location into condos - a transformation that will be too disruptive to our programs and activities.]
Although 77 Walnut Street will have a more affordable lease, we have determined that we still need to raise US$9000 for Urban Dharma to have a more secure financial cushion moving forward. Among other expense lines, this $9000 will cover expenses for our new space (moving expenses and minor renovation & other preparations at the new location), contribute to a rainy-day fund, and help pay for some one-time bills we are expecting in the new year.
Please help us to start our new chapter with a financially more secure and comfortable position. We at Urban Dharma are operating on a as bare-bones budget as possible - we do not pay our spiritual director (no salary, no housing, no medical insurance, no love-offerings!) and everyone else also serves on a voluntary basis. Our only expenses are the bills that our landlord, utility companies, liability insurance, security service require of us and whatever supplies needed for running the programs we offer.
Please help us move forward by making a one time donation so that we can continue:
1) to provide a sanctuary of peace, quiet, and sanity in downtown Asheville,
2) to offer our regular spiritual and wellness programs, and,
3) to sustain a Buddhist presence of wisdom and compassion in our increasingly troubled social fabric.
[As a church (Buddhist), Urban Dharma tracks your financial gifts so that in January of each year you will receive a statement from us that reflects your contributions for the previous year. Please keep this statement for your own tax-filing purposes.]
