March 2020

Yes the Lama House Project is on Hold until further notice. However, we need to send rice-money for food & rent. As Lama & his mothers children now have no income... we are trying to raise basic funds to help them survive. Please if you can give something... it could mean they have rice, medicine... or something to cover their basic needs. (Love to All... Stay Safe).

Australia has been seriously hit with various events over previous months.
Lama's  House building 'gofundme' account is presently on Hold.

We thank Everyone make a positive contribution toward the success of the garden, tap and boundary fence. The gate was a high-point completing phase one of this project.

Sustainable Skills Development Project - Gambia
LAMA NEEDS FUNDS TO BUILD A HOUSE IN GAMBIA

Jan - Feb 2020

With your help last year, we managed to order, four truck loads of sand, some 50 odds bags of concrete, 20 metres of water-pipe hosing and a tap. We made 4700 hand-made bricks, we paid a Mason US$3000 to build the wall. We then paid US$750 for a Gate to secure the garden that we have now planted. Now, this year, the focus is to build the house. It is a great challenge for us.

Xmas Message

Lama is recovering slowly from Malaria. His energy level is improving slowly, he says he is okay.

He sent us photo's of the boundary Fence Gate (we funded late last year) that is now made & installed (isn't it beautiful?)

... Plus two photo's of his Mothers Gardens.

He also sends his LOVE to EVERYONE and wishes us all a Happy New Year.

Lama's Mothers Food Gardens - now surrounded by the Boundary Fence + Gate. His family is so grateful of our support and their progress. Thank You to everyone who has contributed this far... we made a difference.

The Goal now is to start to build the House. To find out the whole story of Lama's situation and journey please go to his website on www.urbancolours.online

I do hope you hear Lama's desperate call. He is a humble, hard-working generous and extremely honest young man supporting his Mother and her children since their father died, also last year.

Lama appeals to your goodwill to help him fundraise and give him your support to build a house. The family owns land now but are homeless.

November-December 2019

It is harder to campaign with a "gofundme" site when the family you are supporting is homeless in The Gambia, West Africa ... on the other side of the world. Lama, who provides for his mothers family, is sick, he has Malaria. He is homeless, has a job but is presently unable to work. This means marketing his project to build a house for his family from Canberra has become more difficult because without his own engagement, momentum on the project is slower.

I am busy learning how to screen-print T-Shirts and create other hand-made craft items that he could sell to the tourists in The Gambia. These are new skills for me. Getting the photo-emulsion for the image on the silk-screen is a tricky business. It is a process, yes and I wish I had a mentor or some hand-on local help.

This month I am trying to raise the funds to send two DHL boxes to him with cloths, solar lights and toys for the children.  Over the few months we have raised $1,800 odd which paid for the Gate for his boundary fence and sent $600 for medicine.

I have changed the target to be raised this month because we have raised almost $5,000 in other areas over  the previous seven months (busking & selling goods) which we sent directly to Lama's family. I wont give up however with so much need everywhere in the world, I know the pace for raising funds is slower then we had all hoped. If you can support  Lama in any way with your ideas, hands or contribution you would be making a huge difference. Lama and his family need to build a house urgently.

September-October

Things are tough at present for Lama and his family in The Gambia. Lama has been very sick with Malaria. It means he has been off-work and has been sent to Dakar Hospital in Senegal... which is a long way from Brikama Markets, his Mother and her Children. Please if you can please help and donate. I am doing what I can to fundraise now (in the background ... using a Square Reader (digital wallet) .... selling small craft-products to keep this project alive. Lama needs hope at this time and any contributions you make show him that we do care and want to help him make a difference in his life. He isn't free, to explore his own life until he finishes building a House for his Mother & her children. Lama's father died of Malaria last year and this haunts the entire family. Our help... makes an incredible difference... to this young man, who truly deserves our total support and absolute respect.

August update

We have virtually finished the Boundary Fence... just waiting for the Hand-Made Gate to arrive.

We celebrate the progress we made over the past few months. It was hard-work for us but not as hard as it was for Lama to organise and work in-between looking after his mothers family. Lama at 18 years old, is the sole-breadwinner for five others in his Mothers family and helps friends whenever he can. I so respect the willfulness and motivation of this one young man.

April Update

Lama has been evicted from the run-down old shack he & his family were living in. He and his mother are house hunting for a rental solution, somewhere to live "right now" ... they are homeless....

But wait... Lama's family also owns a bare piece of land. He has planted food crops, and he needs to complete the Boundary Fence.

Lama, an 18 year old homeless youth - is trying to build a Boundary Fence on land the children's father left them before he died, six months ago. His overall goal is to provide a house for the children.

For this reason we started the  "GoFundMe" project.

Our April focus is on the "Buy a Brick" part of the Budget. http://www.urbancolours.online/house-budget.html

This is so Lama can pay a professional Mason to finish the work on the Boundary Fence, on the children's own land.

Lama desperately needs $3, 000 to finish the Brick Fence.

We have raised some  $1, 000 already... (see top right of this page),  toward the cost of the Mason so as to complete the Boundary Fence.

The other $1000 was spent on making 4700 Bricks required and that job now completed.

March Update

Although Lama has been making progress, to build a house, today he says he and his mothers young children are going to be evicted from the old shack, by relatives... because they need that land for themselves. It is heartbreaking. Below I show you the photo's of the place Lama's family has been living in. Our fear was that it wouldn't last another wet-season, now however the situation or need to build a house is even more critical. Please help if you can, donate to his https://www.gofundme.com/urban-colours

You can go to Lama's website, http://www.urbancolours.online/  to find his full story

With the Brick making Fence process virtually finished, Lama has now ordered the STONES to start laying the Foundations-digging a channel... to build the Wall part of the Fence. He needs more funds to complete this... please can you help and donate to this next stage of the project.

Lama said he and his friends used another truck load of sand, and 20 bags of cement to make another 1700 brick blocks.  Thats is some 4300 bricks handmade (if we include the last lot). This is all in preparation to build a boundary fence for this house.... which is the long-hall and the main reason we have started this "gofundme" project.  We need to build a house. Lama will need a lot of help... to finish this house. Please donate. The wet season is coming and the house he is living in is falling down.

Dec-Jan-Feb Successfully Raised $3000

Spent $3000 to lay a long water hose & tap from friends property. Ordered truckloads  of sand & bulk bags of concete and made 3500 handmade bricks. Used $1000 from GoFundMe account above and $2000 from a car, a donor sold & who sent direct to Lama's Gambia account.
