Who Are We?

We’re a group of Film and Television students at Bath Spa University, currently planning a short film that explores autism, anxiety and social communication in everyday life.

Our film "UPTURN" follows Benjamin, an autistic student whose life is disrupted when he’s forced to attend his mates house party. What seems like a simple task, quickly becomes overwhelming and overstimulating for Ben. Loud music, flashing lights, and unfamiliar faces is all too much to process, but through this night, Ben finds connection in the most unexpected way, developing himself into a more confident person.

The film aims to raise awareness and educate people about autism by providing an inside insight and displaying this in a perspective that someone with autism would experience.

Why This Story Matters

Representation of autism in film is often misunderstood or oversimplified, as well as being inaccurate to how people with autism live day to day.

With "UPTURN" we want to bring authenticity and heart to the screen, drawing from real experiences to tell a story that feels human, relatable, and hopeful.
