Uprise for Equality

Uprise Food's was named in support of uprising against a food system that beats workers down, is cruel to animals, and is poisoning the Earth. In the spirit of uprising to make the world an equal and fair place, where every person has a chance to live their dreams, UPrise Food's is raising money for Black-owned vegan start-ups.
Our goal is to raise $3,000 that will be split between three start-ups, each receiving a $1,000 grant. We are happy to announce that we are now raising funds for a third start-up, Naturel Juicing .The first two start-ups to receive grants are two vegan catering companies, Cabo Vegan and Discover Vegans. To begin this campaign, Uprise Foods donated the first $500.
Throughout history the Black community has faced systematic oppression and we feel that by helping start-ups that support compassionate and healthy values, we can make a real and lasting change. We understand that real change takes involvement on many levels, and after much soul-searching since the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, we feel that as a vegan food company, this fundraiser would be a way that we could be a small part of the that change.

Naturel Juicing
Naturel Juicing is a Black + Women-owned business based out of Woburn, Massachusetts founded by Nage Caidor. We specialize in making fresh, tasty, nutrient dense raw cold-pressed juices. Our mission is to help customers feel good by getting them back on track with their health in the most convenient way possible while quenching their thirst for energy-boosting, body cleansing, hydrating, & flavorful juices. We do so by delivering our tasty nutrient-dense juices straight to their door without them ever having to leave the house. At Naturel Juicing, our customers will no longer have to sacrifice time they don't have or their health ever again.
Naturel Juicing's journey began seven years ago when I was an undergraduate student at Umass-Amherst. I started out making juices for my friends and myself out of my dorm room using ingredients that are household staples in my culture and back home in Haiti. Everyone who tried my juices at that time loved them and always said that it reminded them of juices that their moms would make back at home. This gave me tremendous motivation to keep making more juices and various smoothies that I love and wanted to share with the world. Two years later, I decided to take a leap of faith and start the process of establishing my own juice business but, unfortunately, I was not able to get it off the ground due to lack of funding. However, I never gave up on my dream. This past fall, I decided to take the biggest leap yet. I decided to just LAUNCH the business with the resources that I had instead of waiting any longer for the "perfect" time. So since the start of 2020, we've open to the public and we are looking to continue to provide customers with our fresh nutrient dense juices to support their immune system especially at this unprecedented time where the proper intake of nutrients is vital in us staying resilient against COVID-19.

Cabo Vegan
Tome & Valery are a vegan couple out of Brockton, Ma who were set to be married on August 1st, 2020, in their native country, Cabo Verde Islands. A perfect storm of a virus pandemic, cancelled destination wedding plans and a grossly wrongful termination from Valery's employer of 8 years, served as a catalyst for them to finally put their visions into reality.
March of 2020 was exciting as Tome' and Valery were set to travel back to Cabo Verde to finish up the wedding planning and to celebrate Tome's birthday. The trip was cut short with the increasing concerns of corona virus looming, so they returned from their trip without finalizing plans. Their original plan was to get married and immediately start working on "the baby" that they spoke so much about. That baby is "Cabo Vegan" and it arrived earlier than expected.
Formerly the Lead Dental Assistant, in a South Shore dental office, Valery griped over the unfair treatment she faced at work for years before suddenly being terminated for following Governor Baker's May 18th re-opening. Her boss wanted her back on May 4th to plan for May 18th's opening but for the first time in 8 years she took a stand. She explained the fear of infecting her elderly father who lives with her and advised her about the May 18th advisory. Without any work incidents in 8 years and despite being labeled the best assistant at work, her employer released her with one email. "You've been removed from the list of employees for refusing to return to work. Good luck in your new office"
The fear of not speaking up was gone and replaced with the fear of losing her father or infecting anyone else in the household. Enough was enough... "I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear" – Rosa Parks
In the midst of the protests being held all around the United States to protest the killing of George Floyd they found strength, they lifted each other up and hit the ground running with their dream of opening a catering service. Cabo Vegan was born on June 2nd, 2020 as a catering service providing tasty vegan Cabo Verdean dishes in and around the Boston and Brockton area. They released a limited June menu to get a feel for the demand and have been working around the clock to meet their unexpected demands!
Discover Vegans
I am a proud Haitian- American woman who had a vision for the future of food. It is no surprise that in the Haitian culture and many other cultures that meat, seafood and dairy are the main ingredients used to create food. However, I wanted to take a different approach and create foods that were familiar, but more health conscious . I started this entrepreneur journey from my home kitchen. I would recipe test Vegan Haitian Patties (a non vegan popular food item in the Haitian culture) for a few friends who were wowed at how amazing it had tasted. That quickly turned into me driving around the city of Boston making deliveries for other people who were interested. Then soon enough I was selling my patties at two restaurants. My journey so far has brought me to this catering path. I've been able to create so many familiar yet delicious dishes without the meat, dairy, or seafood and I turned it into a business. I am very proud for how far I've come and proud of Discovers Vegans and I hope that I can continue to make an impact in this world through my food.
