On June 12th, my dad received a diagnosis of advanced liver cancer. Just a month ago he was active, working, and doing repairs around the house.
In his words, "It hit me like a freight train."
Even though he feels up to working a little here and there, he hasn't had the stamina to resume work as normal. It is for this reason, he's decided to stop working and focus on his health.
This means closing up shop for his small business, NPNG.
So, I've started this campaign for two reasons . .
[#1] To raise funds to help with some immediate needs associated with his living & medical expenses while we figure out next steps. We are still meeting with the doctors on the best course of action for his treatment & care.
[#2] To celebrate Dad's life work and his significant contributions to the music industry. Even though I only understand a fraction of the genius that drives his craft, I know he brings incredible passion and integrity to all that he does.
Celebrating Karl, the mad scientist . .
Dad has had a lifelong career as a builder, designer, and tech (read "mad scientist") of high-end audio and recording equipment.
From mixing sound for the B-52's in 1978 to wiring and maintaining recording studios for producers and artists such as L.A. Reid, Dallas Austin, and OutKast; Dad built his business around servicing the Atlanta music scene.
For the love of music & sound . .
Dad's ultimate passion is design.
Over the past 25+ years, he has lovingly (and meticulously) designed and hand-built some of the very best microphone preamps in the industry.
Artists such as Shelby Lynne, The Killers, Band of Horses (mixed by Jason Kingsland), T-Pain, Christina Aguilera (engineered by Todd Chapman), and Judy Collins have recorded through his mic preamps.
In all that he does, Dad seeks purity of sound. Always innovating and always finessing -- perfecting his craft and gladly sharing his knowledge with others.

If you're in the industry & in the Atlanta area, Dad is in the process of clearing out his shop and is taking in donations for gear and parts.
