Upcyclers: Fashions Climate Frontliners
Hello Everyone; we are two female Latina filmmakers, Clementina Masarweh and Roxana Chapela, also Fashion Upcyclers. We have produced a short film which highlights seven Fashion Upcyclers. We are trying to positively impact our environment by sharing their inspiring stories and making change happen.
Fashion is one of the top five highest contributors of harmful effects on our planet. Fast Fashion is the most detrimental of categories in fashion with environmental and ethical practices. As you will learn from our film regarding Upcyclers, we care about the environment and, most importantly, about all humans. We want future generations to have a sustainable planet to live on. Our goal is to keep fashion out of landfills and continue to reuse what already exists. Creating beautiful designs that inspire and motivate others. We want everyone to feel empowered as this is a very inclusive movement. Everyone is welcome! Together we can all make a difference.
Please consider contributing to our Go Fund Me account if our film moves you. No amount is too small. We are trying to raise money for our upcyclers to travel to various film festivals worldwide. We have been fortunate to have been accepted by many (nominated and won awards for BEST MESSAGE). We want to continue bringing awareness and representing the film and the movement. The funds will also be towards producing an extended short film, as this film was intended to be the trailer.
We dedicate this film to all upcyclers around the world! Thank you!
What is an Upcycler? A fashion upcycler is someone who reuses discarded materials to prevent them from going into landfills; they keep fashion circular. They create a product of higher value than the original.
Why is this important? Keeping fashion out of landfills and utilizing existing materials lessens the environmental footprint considerably, as this is as close to zero waste production as possible.
Why are we doing this? We do this because we care about our children's lives. We do this because we know there is still a chance for us to slow down the trajectory of climate change. The future of our planet and whether it will be sustainable for future generations depends on what we choose to do today. Please choose with us to help
