What a better way to bring two generations together than to show youngsters how to interview senior citizens.
This allows the seniors to talk with the kids about what it was like to be a kid themselves.
'Friends' will give that opportunity to both young and old to have a common topic and to help keep a dialog flowing with each other.
Starting in October I will meet with both high school and middle school students to show them how to create a video story with interview techniques that media sites are currently using.
The main question that will be asked, by the student to the senior citizen, is 'what message would you give to your younger self?'
The senior will then be encouraged to ask the student what their life is like now and what, if anything, they would like to change about it.
This give-and-take conversation will help develop a friendship between them.
When the 'Friends' interviews are completed I will get back together with both groups and ask them to help me with the editing process.
After the video is completed the video will be shown publicly and different sites, the first will be at Martin Library in York, PA. Other sites, like the senior housing complex where the interviews will be taking place, and the schools where the students are from, will also be asked to show the video stories.
Being that the video showings are public, I will be inviting family members to attend the viewings.
'Friends' is designed to take place over most of the school year.
Different schools are being encouraged to take part.
