Welcome to the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race Team!

We are a group of University of Ottawa undergrads from various backgrounds who will be challenged to design and build a toboggan whose sliding surfaces are made only of concrete.

                                                         Racing GNCTR 2017

Our goal is to gain experience related to our studies and create the best toboggan possible, by bringing our knowledge together and working as a team. This competition is an excellent way for motivated young engineers from across Canada to gain knowledge and experience that cannot be found in classrooms or textbooks, such as designing for real-life applications, hands-on manufacturing, project management and networking.

The University of Ottawa has fielded a team to compete in GNCTR for the past eight years. In the beginning, the team had trouble simply getting a toboggan down the hill, but for the past few years, uOttawa's team has placed in the top seven of twenty-one competing teams,  won "Best Braking Design"  and even won "Best SuperStructure Design" this past year . In addition to improving its performance, the team has also grown substantially, now reaching close to 60 active team members.                                             GNCTR team 2017 with trophy

Competing in the GNCTR is not only important because of the experience it provides, but also because of the camaraderie and motivational energy that it creates within the team and throughout the event.

We are asking for your support to help us bring  24 to 30 participants to this year's event, which will be held in Waterloo this January. We are looking to raise enough funds to cover the cost of building and transporting our toboggan, safety equipment, and team uniforms, as well as transportation costs for our team members. It is very important that we stay in the black, as a school team, we want any student to be able to participate, regardless of their financial situation. This means that we cover all costs except for food, and that any surplus goes towards next year's team.

Our budget is broken down below:

Since 1974, the GNCTR has brought together some of the most talented and passionate members of the engineering student community. As the oldest and largest engineering competition in Canada, this gathering of young professionals is much more than just a competition; it has become a tradition that encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit. Students are also given the opportunity to meet industry representatives and build a lasting network within the engineering community.

We want to thank everyone supporting our team; this experience would not be possible without your help.
