Welcome to the UofSC Mock Trial Program’s GoFundMe campaign!
We are a group of undergraduate students at the University of South Carolina coming from a variety of backgrounds, interests, and experiences all brought together by our passion for law, legal advocacy, and the judicial process. For nearly two decades, our student-led organization has aided students in improving their public speaking, critical thinking, and other such skills that allow us to better advocate for ourselves and others.
Mock Trial is a highly competitive series of legal simulations with over 700 universities and colleges from across the United States competing at multiple invitationals, tournaments, and competitions. The American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), the national organization that administers collegiate-level Mock Trial, provides us with the case materials that we use to compete throughout the fall and spring semesters.
Last year, the UofSC Mock Trial Program had its most successful season yet, culminating in our first ever appearance at the National Competition in Philadelphia. We were one of 48 teams (out of 700 nation-wide!) who put in the hard work, passion, and desire for success required to reach that level. Out of all 48 teams, we achieved 10th place, helping to establish our program as a serious competitor at the top level, vying with teams including Georgetown, Yale, Rhodes, and Harvard, among others. Part of our success was thanks to the generosity of people like you, who donated over $3,000 to fund our expenses for that trip. Here are just a few of our program’s recent successes:
2nd & 3rd place at the Annual Mid-South Invitational at MTSU, earned by our top level teams in the fall
2nd place at the Argo Invitational at UWF, earned by our A Team
5th place at the Seminole Smackdown Invitational at FSU by our A team and an Honorable Mention by our B team
Sent two teams to the Opening-Round Championship Series, the semi-final competition that determines bids to Nationals, a program-first
10th place at the National Competition, a program-first
an All-American Award, the highest individual-level accolade, a program-first (won by one of our freshman competitors!)
More than 10 individual attorney and witness awards won by our members last year
Now, we’ve officially started the 2019-2020 competitive season, and once again, UofSC Mock Trial needs your help. As a student-led organization, we receive funding from Student Government, but due to the sheer amount of materials, travel, and hotel expenses we face, we find ourselves needing more funding as our program becomes increasingly competitive.
In order to continue to compete at the top-level and build a legacy of success, we rely on the generosity of donors like you to allow us to keep succeeding. If you donate to this GoFundMe, your contribution will go directly to program expenses such as travel, team supplies, and other program resources that will help our competitors in this upcoming year!
